Tips on travel health preparation:

  • Read about health dangers you may face for your travel destination at the CDC's Traveler's Health site.
  • Drinking water outside the US is a common source of intestinal upset. Bring ample bottled water to drink on your trip. Avoid drinks with ice, foods they contain water (soups, sauces, etc) and foods that have to be washed in water or come from the water.
  • Consider requesting a prescription from your doctor for Lomotil for treating diarrhea symptoms and ciprofloxacin (Cipro) for treatment of infectious diarrhea (abdominal cramps and pain with diarrhea containing blood or mucus).
  • Consider vaccination prior to travel for influenza and pneumococcus.
  • Prophylaxis for jet lag and sunburn depending on your destination.
